Request to pair me with a MeshMate

Hello Layer5 Community,

I’m Jay. I’m new to contributing to Meshery and I’d like to request a MeshMate to pair with me for onboarding and early contributions. I have a full-time day job, so I’m trying to be deliberate with my limited time and would benefit a lot from 1:1 guidance on how to navigate the project and community effectively

What I’m looking for help with

  • Identifying a open-issues in the project. I was mostly looking at the help-wanted issue list and some have open PRs and some don’t and it’s a little overwhelming. I don’t mind triaging the issue to find something but I don’t know what I’m looking for so that makes it a little challenging.

My background (so you know how to guide me)

  • Role: Infrastructure Engineer (day job)

  • Primary skills: Go, systems/infrastructure, backend, cloud-native tooling

What I’ll do on my side

  • Show up prepared with specific questions, context, and PR drafts

  • Keep updates in the forum thread for transparency

Goal

  • Aim to have meaningful impact through contribution and build consistency.

  • Understand current architecture and help in design/review future architecture.

  • Reading this concepts
  • Browsing code in meshery/server/
  • Found couple of open issues which I’m interested in:
    • meshery/issues/14443
    • meshery/issues/16662
  • Reading up on this issue meshery/issues/17240 and OPA in general.
  • Exploring project/contributing/contributing-policies

Availability and time commitment

  • I’m available on weekends from 10 AM to 6 PM IST
  • On weekdays I’m available from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM IST
